Inaugural Esports Demo Event at the Chief Minister Games a Massive Success

In a historic first for Indian esports, along with the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, the Esports Association of Tamil Nadu (ESAT) successfully hosted the inaugural Esports Demo event as part of the prestigious Chief Minister Games. This is the first time esports has been included as an official sport in a state-level competition, marking a new chapter for the integration of competitive gaming in Tamil Nadu's sporting ecosystem.
The event drew an overwhelming response, with over 5,000 participants registering for the tournament. Qualifiers for popular games such as BGMI, eChess, Real Cricket, and Pokémon Unite were held on October 17th and 18th, showcasing the impressive talents of players across the state. The excitement continued with cafe qualifiers on October 19th, featuring intense competition in Street Fighter 6, EA FC 24, F1, and NBA 2K25. More than 200 competitors turned up to battle it out, making it an action-packed day that ultimately produced the finalists for each game.
The grand finale on October 20th was a spectacle to behold, with the top players from each game delivering thrilling performances. Participants praised the seamless execution of the tournament, with no delays and a perfectly timed schedule. Navin H, a professional EA FC 24 player, shared his thoughts on the event, saying, “This is one of the best-hosted tournaments I’ve seen. Everything started on time without any delays, and the experience was top-notch. I’m excited to see how esports will grow in Tamil Nadu.”

This event represented a significant milestone for the Esports Association of Tamil Nadu (ESAT), which has been at the forefront of promoting esports in the state. ESAT has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for gamers to compete at the highest levels and ensure that esports is recognized alongside traditional sports.
Reflecting on this achievement, Sirish Singaram, President of ESAT, expressed his pride: “This is a proud moment for esports in Tamil Nadu. As pioneers who introduced this concept of including esports in the Chief Ministers Games, we are grateful to the Deputy Chief Minister, the Sports Secretary, and the Member Secretary for supporting and hosting this event.
